There is nothing more annoying in the world as being accused of something falsely…
However, the mounting anger and annoyance doubles when such an accusation is online scam…
And yes, it triples when that accusation was made maliciously – with the overriding intent to bring your hard earned reputation to naught and possibly, ruin your online business…
Your anger escalates (possibly well out of control) if such malicious and false accusation is made by a common thief and scammer that has scammed you before…
And you nearly burst when you both are living in a country where scam, scammers, 419 (you mention the names) are so passionate about their ‘business’ to the point that nothing seems to work online in the country except you are running an honest online business (like Akaahan Terungwa) or use the pay-on-delivery model of doing business like Konga or Jumia…
However, you know exactly what to do, calm down yourself and strategize if you are Akaahan Terungwa or are a close follower of his work.
That is exactly what I am going to show you – how to brilliantly tackle a (false) online scam accusation leveled on you and instead, turn the tables around in a brilliant fashion. Are you ready?
Recently, I was falsely accused of online scam by a halfwit (Ken Ezeani, founder of incomefornigerians.com, GidiExclusive.com, Kerewave.com & Kerewa.net) who considers my honesty and integrity a major threat to his continuous ‘success’, recorded in the most dubious manner known to humanity.
However, while it was easy for him to cast allegations upon allegations (by use of his web pages and Blogspot accounts), no one really took him serious and as a matter of fact, business doubled for me – primarily via the free publicity he gave me.
This post, though very long, documents exactly how I managed to keep my reputation when someone else was having sleepless nights, desperately trying to destroy it. More importantly, it also shows you how you can brilliantly wriggle yourself out of any such false online scam accusation plastered on your person in the past, present or any challenge (of this sort) that will emerge in the future.
Update (August 2016):
In line with the wisdom shared in this entry, I have offered a formal rejoinder to the initial (false) accusation that prompted this entry. Find it here: Re: Akaahan Terungwa is a scammer and fraudster.
What Is Online Scam And What Does A False Accusation Of It Mean?
Online scam (or fraud or 419 – whatever you choose to call it) involves a false representation of facts, usually to newbies, in the attempt to cheat them off their hard earned money. It usually involves exaggeration of claims or the propagation of out right lies meant to heavily deceive and mislead – towards the singular objective of obtaining their hard earned money and ultimately, failing to deliver as promised.
Or, after the newbie (or even online savvy person) parts with cash for the promise of a product or service, what is usually tendered is at variance with what was advertised. Or, at worst, nothing is tendered: money is simply collected and the scam perpetrator simply vanishes!
It’s as simple and as devilish as that: YOU PAY FOR WHAT YOU NEVER GET!
Why Would Anyone Bother Accusing You Of Online Fraud Falsely?
In a normal – non-crazy world, no one will bother accusing you of scam (or online scam for that matter) unjustly. However, our world is a crazy one with a plethora of people who at best, are the direct replica of the devil. For such people, it doesn’t matter if you are innocent! Once any of the understated motivations are present, you are dope – literally:
- If you are perceived as a competitor – offering a similar service to what such a folk is offering and on better terms too (the classical Ken Ezeani scenario).
- You may also fall victim of false online scam accusation when persons who are not direct competitors aim at your online reputation with the intention of settling old – and unrelated scores (if you ‘snatched’ an internet literate’s girl, beware 🙂 )
- Finally, you may also be falsely accused of online scam when genuine customers hop into your offers without a comprehensive idea of what you are offering and at the end of the offer/day, feel cheated because their expectations were not met.
These are the three basic instances when as an online entrepreneur, you are most likely to be accused of online scam – and in a false manner. However, in this post, emphasis is going to be laid on the very first instance – that of competitors who have gone mad with jealousy and envy…this is because, such an accusation type is the most common, persistent, dangerous and violent!
…and needless to say, many who have been accused of it never fully recover. The second and third type of false online scam accusations can be taken off without much effort…majorly because of the naivety (in online affairs) of the perpetrators.
However, The Worst Has Happened – A Slowpoke Has Accused You Of Online Scam Unjustly…What Are You Supposed To Do?
The worst has happened and some fellow has arisen out of the blues to accuse of what you have no idea of! You have been charged with what you are completely innocent of – something you would never do even in your next life…are you supposed to lie still and allow someone who has no idea how you built your business empire bring it down?
Or are you going to resist with the last ounce of strength and willpower left in you?
The following is a battle plan I have drawn for your benefit; it may please you to understand that I have used this same strategy to very great and awesome effect – and as a matter of fact, this plan could also help you if you are in a similar situation…
a) Dash Down, Stay Calm And Observe The Situation
There is a standard military drill every soldier is taught: at the sight – or sound of danger, the very first thing you ought to do as a soldier is to dash down, observe before you know whether to return fire, stay calm or run for dear life!
There is no difference here…
Immediately it has come to your knowledge that someone is out there tarnishing your online reputation, you simply need to keep calm (as much as possible) and try to observe the situation as rationally as possible. The most important question to ask and answer at this stage is: what is the motivation of this guy and how can he best be tackled?
b) Go To Work – Locate The Enemy
After dashing down after an unjustifiable scam attack on your personality, it’s time to go to work – and the very first thing is to locate the enemy; the guy/gal responsible for such an assault.
Usually though, persons who operate in such a manner will give you ample clue as to who exactly they are: an email, a threat to ‘Google your name and see the results’ – anything. Or, in a worse case scenario, an anonymous phone call or text message.
However, not all enemies officially declare their identity so easily. Many simply publish the damaging info and leave you to wonder who exactly it is that they are. In such instances, kindly deploy the use of Whois Data, IP Address tracking or if it’s a public forum, look closely at the profile and posts he/she has been publishing…
There is always a clue. Your job is to find it – and figure out the coward fast! The most important question at this stage is: who is this guy?
c) Assess Your Options
Immediately you figure out who is responsible for such unwarranted attacks on your reputation, kindly calm down and assess your options…
Is the enemy also in the same business as you are? Talking sense into him/her and maybe showing them what you may do would solve the issue. Is it a dissatisfied client or customer? Consider offering a partial or full refund. Is it someone whose girl/boyfriend you snatched away? Kindly consider returning the snatched commodity back…you get the drift?
The task here is to see what method will best solve the issue at hand without full “bloodshed”. You are also looking at a solution that will serve the interests of all concerned in the most brilliant manner. If you come to a logical answer here and your challenger is appeased, the war is logically won already and there would be no need to proceed further.
However, in most cases of false scam accusations, you may not be able to come to a logical conclusion of the issue at this point. And, if that is the case, you must proceed to the next item “d”.
However, as you consider your options, consider them as a matter of strategy – and not fear. If you have to negotiate, negotiate like a man or woman who is not afraid but rather, considers his/her time too valuable to waste on trivial issues/frivolities.
And let the enemy know this fact!
Don’t forget the paramount question you need to ask yourself at this stage: what course of action will best serve my interest at this point in time?
d) Let Your Audience Hear The Story – (And Your Own Side) From You Directly
When you begin to build a community – like we have here at NTP, it becomes a family – one bound by trust, hope and unity. Usually too, your online family also constitutes the persons who are first to trust you – those who believe in you perhaps better than you believe in yourself.
Tell this awesome community of yours everything that the traitor has done. Dedicate a post to explaining the exact situation of things and how exactly someone out there is calling you a scammer and how innocent you are. Tell them the whole truth. The undiluted truth. Nothing but the truth.
99% of your intimate readers (or family members as I love to address mine) will believe you. Believe me. The point here is that your readers deserve to know about the scam accusation about you directly from you – and not from the enemy!
e) Run Damage Control
Any indication that you are not honest in your business – especially if such a business is an online based business and you’re domiciled in Nigeria – spells doom, no matter how small. At this stage of your handling the false scam accusation made against you, you need to run damage control.
If the accusation was made in a public forum, reply the accusation and let all the forum members know that you are the one accused and tender your defense. After clearing your name, kindly ask the forum moderators to delete the thread, completely.
If it’s a tweet, get the Twitter management to outrightly delete it; the same goes for a Facebook posts/updates. The core of this stage is to make certain that you either answer – satisfactorily to the allegations leveled against you or if you can’t defend yourself, cause it to be out-rightly deleted.
Though, there are limitations here as to what you can achieve, do your best. Remember, the most important question at this stage is: how can I minimize the damage this fellow has caused?
f) Deploy The Tsar Bomba
The Tsar Bomba was the most powerful hydrogen bomb ever to be detonated in the history of humanity…
Now, for such a fellow who will go out of his/her way to make sure that you are grounded reputation wise, nothing is sweeter and more fitting as making sure that you go back in time, stop the Soviet Union from detonating the 27,000 KG hydrogen bomb and instead, use the bomb to smash the skull of your attacker!
What is the point here? Since your attacker has deemed it fit to attack you unjustly, make it a point of duty to also run a few background checks and ensure that these also come to public light. In my own case, I discovered that my accuser is the one behind all the Dee Obinna, Authur Azolibe and now Ikemba Eze Scams. I also discovered that he is a professional scam artist who actually makes a living scamming Nigerians!
And I told the world who exactly this slow poke, Ken Ezeani was…
The guarding question here is: how can I bring this fellow to his knees?
g) Bomb-Proof Yourself
While you are out executing this strategy, you must make sure that you never stop doing good to your subscribers or even casual readers – for, it is only by doing so that you will win them over and completely defeat your attacker flat.
Let me give you an example: when Ken Ezeani accused me of scamming on his sales page, incomefornigerians.com, I had (and still have) an increase in visitors who immediately bounce off his page after reading his accusation, Google my name, land on NTP, read my post against Ken and leave satisfied and totally convinced that Ken Ezeani is the ultimate scammer in this case and not me – especially as I have evidence and a ton of comments to accompany my post and he has none.
See how I cleverly bomb proofed myself? You should also learn to do the same…as you ask yourself: what is the best protection against this loud mouth?
h) Never Engage Your Emotions…This Is A Task For The Brain, Not The Heart!
It’s very easy to lose your cool in such instances…but, believe me, the last thing you need to do is to lose your mind to the clearly senseless and completely baseless accusations! While you fight back with every ounce of strength left in your body, understand that this is a task for the brain – and not the heart.
…never let your emotions involved as you strategize. If you do, you are going to get something wrong and end up being hurt. Forget that someone has done this to you…forget that it’s unfair. Forget that you deserve better…
Keep cool instead and make certain that you fire with precision!
When in doubt, ask yourself: Am I thinking straight – or is my heart involved now?
i) Watch Your Time, Commit To Something Really Productive And Forget The Idiot!
Going through this procedure can sap a ton of your energy out of you daily – if you are not careful…you must not let that happen. At each phase, be conscious that you do not waste more time than it is logical for a clown who does not know better than accusing someone like you.
Watch your time, devote it to something really productive – like writing an eBook or devoting it to creating either a free or premium course. As you try as much as possible to deviate attention from the distraction, remember that striking the fellow, letting him get what he deserves and then focusing attention on more worthier things online is perhaps the best revenge.
Never allow him/her succeed in the distraction mission. Ask yourself at this stage: is this war taking too much of my productive time? If you answer “yes”, you need to change something – and fast too. Why give your adversary the best part of your attention?
j) This Is Your Chance – Rise Well Above The Pettiness!
Everything happens for your good…even if you immediately see it or not.
When you are unjustly accused of scam online, make certain that you rise well above the scam accusation. Rise so high that no one should believe it when they come across the entries online…ask yourself: how can I turn this whole shit into something very nice and grand?
For instance, who will believe that Perez Hilton scammed someone of $100 or that Pat Flynn made away with $250 someone paid him for a Job? See how unlikely these two scenarios are? Make your case the third unlikely scenario!
What If The Scam Accusation Is True – Any Help?
While this ‘battle plan’ was drawn for persons who have been accused unjustly of online scam, it is quite a possibility that you are reading this entry now and have been accused of online scam rightly, justly – and correctly.
In order not to mince words, you are like my grand accuser, Ken Ezeani, the foremost online scammer in Nigeria. Is this entry for you?
Without mincing words: NO!
Why would you scam someone of his hard earned money? Why would you give us all a bad name? Why would you bring a curse to your family and children’s children? And most importantly, how could you do all this and still sleep well at night?
Sorry. If indeed you are a scammer, I would love to be part of the legal team that will bring you to justice…and certainly, my article is not for you!
Why I Drew This ‘Battle Plan’
When I was falsely accused of online scam by Ken Ezeani some months back, I really believed my reputation would suffer. However, while things staggered a little, everything took shape back to the status quo ante and as a matter of fact, is even working brilliantly in my favor now as I just rejected two handsome freelance writing offers within the past week alone.
However, since the world has a ton of people who think like Ken Ezeani, I figured out that it will be wise to document the exact steps I took to turn a rather unpleasant event in my favor. Who knows? Right this instant, someone may actually be in dire need of the exact steps I deployed to save my hide…the same steps shared here.
It is for such a reader that I took out time to write this rather lengthy post.
Have You Ever Been In This Rather Nasty Challenge Before? Let’s Hear From You
After Ken Ezeani attacked my online reputation, he went ahead to attack that of my friend too, Abass Toriola. While his motivation is still unclear at this point, it is quite clear that he attacked a few others before me and will not stop after he attacked Abass…this leaves a good number of persons that theoretically are victims of such a devilish act!
Have you even been falsely accused of online scam? It will of help to you if you share your story…together, the NTP community will help you towards making sure that you get to the root of your issue and can smile again.
If you’ve been hit, show us your wounds by way of the contact form…my scar – and most likely, the scars of others who have had a similar experience will make your own wound heal faster.
What do you think?
A Word For Cowards With Idiotic Tendencies
The internet has come to us all for a greater good – and is largely affordable for all. However, like all good things, it can be abused and actually used as a force for evil. As you connect your systems online, kindly remember that whatever man does here on earth comes back to him a hundred fold…and this is true if you believe in a God/any deity or not. It’s just how the world is structured.
Accordingly, as you go about blackmailing/scamming others, kindly remember when you also suffer (painfully) in the hands of blackmailers or scammers, that you invited the disaster upon yourself. Kindly remember too, that no matter the deity you call then, punishment will be certain on your head.
…or your children’s heads. It’s as simple as that!
